1-9 MARCH 2025
Under the Patronage of the European Parliament
The 3rd Athens Independent Film Festival KINO
ATHENS returns to the city of Athens!
This year, KINO ATHENS brings over one hundred (100!)
independent films, from every genre and every corner of the world, establishing
the first ten days of March as the independent cinema season in Athens. This
year, again under the Patronage of the European Parliament, screenings will be held daily from March 1 to 9, 2025,
at Technopolis City of Athens, Μichael Cacoyannis Foundation, French Institute of Greece and BIOS Romantso. The program includes competition
sections, workshops, masterclasses, DJ sets and other parallel activities, while the screenings will take place with Greek and
English subtitles.
The main body of the 3rd international independent film festival of
Athens will be seen at Technopolis City of Athens,
where among the International Competition Feature and Short Films Section and the Special Screenings, the nominated
films for the LUX 2024 Audience Award, will be presented
by the European Parliament and the European Film Academy, in collaboration with
the European Commission.
To continue at the same venue, this year’s kids section KINO JUNIOR, will be held at Technopolis City of Athens,
within 4 days, March 1 to 9, 2025, presenting
a very carefully designed selection of 30 independent films, from 15 different countries!
The films are addressed to children and teenagers, under programs for schools,
for age categories of +3, +6, +9, 12+. It includes animated movies, fiction and
documentary. From the children's program, the British section stands out, with
3 iconic films for children that will be screened in Greece on March 7, 2025,
with the support of the British Council.
At Μichael Cacoyannis Foundation we will have the opportunity
to watch mostly the Greek participations from National Competition Feature and Short Films
Section, while a special screening under the title
Grec Focus will be organized on March 7, 2025 at
the French Institute of Greece, in
which 3 new Greek-French productions of short films will be presented, in the
presence of all the creators.
New entry at this year’s KINO ATHENS’ venues is the BIOS Romantso,
where the ΚΙΝΟ TALKS will be organized, together with more special screenings and parties!
Moreover, two quite important special events held at Technopolis City of Athens
should be highlighted: On March
7, 2025, the Spanish film La Parra will be screened, in the presence
of director Alberto Garcia with the support of the Cervantes Institute of
Athens. On Women’s Day, March 8 2025 the film Cascadeuses, from Switzerland, will have an official
premiere in Greece, with the support of the Embassy of Switzerland in Greece, while just
before its screening the audience will have the opportunity to watch the short
film MIU MIU El Affaire by Laura Citarella,
part of the Women’s Stories of the House MIU MIU, that was presented at the Venice
Film Festival.
Last, the opening film of the 3rd KINO ATHENS Festival will be THE FLOWERS OF UKRAINE by
Adelina Borets, that will be screened right after the Opening
KINO Ceremony on the 1st of March 2025, at Technopolis City of Athens,
in the presence of the director Adelina
Borets.
KINO ATHENS is realized with the support of the City of Athens and the Hellenic
Film and Audiovisual Center.
Ever since our first edition
KINO has been a space of freedom and creativity where unconventional and
unexpected finds a home and cinema in all its splendor is celebrated. We remain
faithful to our values that cinema flourishes when it is free. Free to experiment,
cross boundaries and reveal stories that often remain untold. Our program this
year reflects these values in every section. For another year we received a
large amount of submitted films from all over the world, films that were not
easy to be understood let along be selected and for another year we are
extremely proud of the work done.
See you all at the venues
