Community-Based Primary Prevention of GBV in Greece and Italy – CARE

CARE is an 18-month European project implemented in Greece and Italy, with the main goal of using a community-based approach for the primary prevention of gender-based violence.

The project started in February 2023 and will be completed in July 2024, implemented through the cross-border collaboration of the non-governmental organisations International Rescue Committee (IRC) Hellas and Italy, Caritas Hellas, Global Girl Media Greece and Centro Penc

The project's purpose is to empower participants through various actions and means, such as psychosocial groups for women, strengthening male allies, media training and documentaries as a tool for awareness and mobilization, training of women as GBV prevention focal points in their communities, as well as recreational and physical activities aimed at supporting women with simultaneous activities for their children.

On Thursday, July 11 at 18:30, at Romantso, a closing event will take place with representatives from the International Rescue Committee (IRC) Hellas and Italy, Caritas Hellas, Global Girl Media Greece, and Centro Penc, who will discuss the project's outcomes in the two European countries.

Members from refugee and migrant communities of Athens, who were trained as focal points for GBV prevention, will contribute to the discussion sharing their experiences.

There will be screenings of three documentaries on gender-based violence, created by women who participated in the film and media workshops held in Greece and Italy.

The documentaries will cover topics such as slut-shaming and gender-based violence against Ukrainian refugee women in Greece.

There will also be a Q&A session with the creators.
